Femanol - Does It Work?

Does Femanol work against vaginal discharges and vaginal itch? Like most products for yeast and BV - it depends upon who you talk to! Let me give you the facts.

The ingredients are not listed on sites such as Amazon and the advertising blurb simply states "can assist in the re-establishment of the natural lactobacilli in your vagina" which really tells you almost nothing.

What is in Femanol?

FULL LIST OF INGREDIENTS
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Deodorised Garlic
  • Beta 1,3 D-glucan
  • Neem Bark Extract
  • Thiamin (Vitamin B-1)
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2)
  • Vitamin B-6
  • Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B-5)
  • Biotin
  • Zinc
  • Selenium

This list does contain ingredients that have all been indicated as helpful for vaginal infections and/or immune problems. I'd be happier if they said which strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus it contained but all L acidophilus are lactic acid producing bacteria and that is a good thing for vaginal discharges and vaginal itch.

There is nothing in it that will hurt if you take a little more than the recommended dose. I notice one review says it didn't work for her until she took 4 tablets a day (recommmended dose is 2) but it is going to get very expensive taking it at that sort of dosage. And another woman said she had to take it for 3 months before she was helped.

And yet another woman returned to good ol' Fem Dophilus! She had figured if Femanol was 3 times as expensive it must be 3 times as good! For her - it was not.

Has Femanol Helped Other Women?

At Amazon there have been 15 Femanol reviews (I've updated this info to May 2010) over the two items for sale - same product, just one is for a single bottle and one is for 3 bottles . You can buy this product through those links however I would strongly suggest you do not buy 3 bottles of it until you're sure it is the right product for you.

5 STAR - 6 reviews- "works very well" - "product works, and it works quickly" - "works better than any antibiotic my doctor has prescribed" - "did help me within the 1st 4-7 days." - "noticed the difference within the first week" and "anyone besides me noticed how well this product also curbs your appetite" (but forgets to tell us if it worked!)

4 STAR - 0 reviews

3 STAR - 0 reviews

2 STAR - 2 reviews - "Femanol recommends taking two pills daily, however it takes four pills to notice a difference." -

1 STAR - 7 reviews - "used it for a good 2 weeks...still have odor and discharge" - "it was truly a waste of my money" - "This product did grow my hair, so i have longer hair, but still have body odor. "

So half of the women who used think it is fabulous and the other half think it is no good what-so-ever. I'm inclined to think this is encouraging (call me Pollyanna) because no single product works for everyone - so Femanol appears to either work well for you or it doesn't help at all.

It does not contain any ingredients that could harm you so if you're at your wit's end finding a cure for vaginal discharges or vaginal itch then this product is worth trying. It wouldn't be my top pick but sometimes you have to try a number of solutions before you find the one that works for your individual body chemistry and bacterial make-up.

What's my top pick? It would be Fem-Dophilus. It is a strain specific probiotic answer for vaginal infections.
