Acidophilus Supplements

Are you interested in which acidophilus supplements fared best in the latest round of ConsumerLab tests?

If so, you need to check out ConsumerLab's report on probiotics.

I'd love to tell you all about it because it does make fascinating reading but, quite simply, the information is not mine to tell.

With so many reports over the last few years of probiotics NOT containing viable bacteria, this type of testing gives reassurance that you are getting what you've paid for.

The test was designed to see if the supplement did in fact contain what the packaging claimed it did.

My Pick

If you want a supplement that ONLY contains acidophilus - Nature Made Acidophilus Supplement Tablets, 45-Count Bottles (Pack of 3)

If you want a multi probiotic that contains acidophilus - Jarrow Formulas - Jarro-Dophilus Eps, 4 billion, 60 veggie caps

  • How many acidophilus are alive and "kicking"! Probiotic supplements are often in an inactive or freeze dried state - if so - are they are able to be reactivated?
  • Some products make no claim at all about the number of viable bacteria and others only claim the amount at the time of manufacture. It is much more useful when the manufacturer states how many are present at the Best Before or Use By date.
  • Is there a lack of contaminating organisms? The product should contain the bacteria strains that it claims on the label. There should be no other potentially harmful microorganisms or contaminants.

Remember their test is to see if the product contained what the manufacturer claimed.

It is still up to you to evaluate which product might suit you best.

The Product Review of Probiotic Supplements is found at ConsumerLab. It provides findings for fourteen products that selected for testing and thirteen additional products that passed the same testing through’s Voluntary Certification Program. It also includes information about two products similar to those tested.

Brands included in the report are Advocare, Align, Ark Naturals, Culturelle, DDS, Dr. D, FloraStor, GNC, i-Flora, Jarrow Formulas, Kashi, Kyo-Dophilus, Metagenics, Nature Made, Nature’s Bounty, Nature’s Secret, New Chapter, Nutri-Vet, Optimal Pet, Phillips Colon Health, Proviable (Nutramax), Puritan’s Pride, Solgar, Swiss Natural, Udo’s Choice (Flora), Weil, and Vitamin World.

If you take, or are considering taking, any of those brands then you'll find the latest ConsumerLab report interesting reading.

Acidophilus supplement in a cereal?

Can you get your daily dose of acidophilus in a breakfast cereal?

Yes, you can - if you have a bowl of Kashi Vive Probiotic Digestive Wellness Cereal every morning. Kashi make no claim for any specific quantity of acidophilus in their cereal but it does contain a worthwhile amount and would certainly make this a dependable source.
